What is Specialist in Korean Temple cuisine?
In order to continuously hand down and improve traditional Korean temple food, Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism belonging to Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism has proceeded with a project that standardizes and modernizes temple food recipes, which had been passed down orally.
Due to increased cases of the domestic and foreign temple food education centers or temple food restaurants imitating temple food, the inherent characteristics of temple food are becoming ambiguous. To counterbalance, the certification process as a specialist in Korean temple food through proper testing procedures has been set up and offered to both the Buddhist monks and the general public.
As of 2019, the certificates are issued under the authority of the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism and will later proceed with the private license registration.
What is the qualification system for a specialist in Korean temple food?
The specialist in Korean temple food certification, which was implemented in 2015, produced 254 successful applicants by 2019. The exam is divided into written and practical tests. Only those who pass the written test from the educational institutes certified by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism are eligible to take the written test, and only those who pass the written test are eligible to take the practical test.
